The Prowler (1981)
The Prowler is an 80's slasher about a WWII veteran who received a "dear John" letter. He kills his ex and her current in a gazebo during a graduation dance. The killer was never found. Hop forward 35 years and a college is hosting a graduation dance, the first in 35 years since the murders, at the same venue. The killer, dressed in WWII gear, starts killing students one by one. This film was directed by Joseph Zito (of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Invasion U.S.A. fame) and features a typical slasher movie plot. But where it differs from other slashers, is that the kill scenes look surprisingly real. The special effects were done by none other than legendary Tom Savini. He considers this movie to be his finest work. The Prowler also features one the best head explosion scenes of all time, the only other movies that come close is David Cronenberg's Scanners and William Lustig's Maniac (Savini also did the special effect for this movie). So if you wanna watch a gem of a movie, I highly suggest checking this film out! --Jake
