SXSW 2011
So I'll be heading to SXSW this year, but not the actual festival. There are an enormous amount of awesome bands playing. Friday, I'll be going to 3 different shows and will be seeing: Masakari, All Pigs Must Die, Trap Them, Trash Talk, Ringworm (twice), Magrudergrind (hopefully twice), Lemuria, and many others. And thats just Friday! I'll just be hanging out in downtown Austin all weekend getting rowdy and livin' the rad life. I am beyond stoked for this and will enjoy the time away from Shreveport/work. --Jake

Recycle Bike
A few days ago I started building a single-speed bicycle with salvaged parts. This is what I've built so far. I sanded and re-painted the bike and overhauled the headset and bottom bracket. I had to break down and buy some parts, so when I get them I'll finish the bike and put it up on here! --Jake

RAD ROAD TRIPS
If you want to get out of town and need somewhere awesome to go, look no further. Here are a few of my favorite road trip destinations:
DALLAS
I go to Dallas so much I could probably make the drive blindfolded. My favorite place to hang out in the Big D is Lower Greenville Avenue -- the area has my favorite music venue ever (The Granada Theater), a ton of great bars and restaurants (try the fish tacos at Aw Shucks) and the more-than-good Good Records (owned by Tim DeLaughter of Tripping Daisy and The Polyphonic Spree). There also used to be a Johnny Cash mural on the side of a building around here, but alas, it is no more.
If you’re feeling adventurous, go jump off stuff at Zero Gravity. Or visit the always-reliable Six Flags. Is it sad that I’m 30 years old and have had a season pass for the past 5 years?
Oh, and best rest stop ever at Exit 571A. Free beef jerky. You’re welcome.
MEMPHIS
Went to Memphis for the first time in 2007 on a whim, and now I go back every chance I get – I love the music history in this dang place. It probably sounds really tourist-y, but I can’t pass up a visit to Sun Records, Gibson Guitar Factory, or Graceland -- the tackiest, greatest place ever.
If you’re looking to get into some trouble, you can probably find it on Beale Street (though it’s not near as frightening as Bourbon in New Orleans, at least to me). Minglewood Hall usually has a good rock show or two going on.
NASHVILLE
The drive is fairly long (about 9 or 10 hours from Shreveport), but that’s no problem with plenty of caffeine and a little extra gas money. You’ve gotta take a tour of the Ryman Auditorium (or catch a show). If you’re an art fan, Hatch Show Print on Broadway can’t be missed – I always leave with a sweet print or two that I have no idea where to hang when I get home. Mercy Lounge is a great place for music…got to see Old 97’s and Delta Spirit there just last month.
Third Man Records is hidden away on the outskirts of downtown and the shop is the size of one small room. It’s a cool place to visit, though…but unfortunately Jack White doesn’t run the register like I’d hoped.
Also rad: The East Nashville area. There are a ton of small galleries and shops and a hot dog stand called “I Dream of Weenie.” All the cool kids hang out here.

So there you go, a few of my favorite destinations – now hop in your car, crank up the music, and hit the road!

http://tharadlife.blogspot.com/2011/01/52-weeks-without-contest-january.html
Ok so now that is out of the way. Here is this month's contest.
All we ask of you this month is to tell us a story, but not just any story. We want you to tell us the most embarrassing story you can think of about yourself. Whether it's the time you got drunk and peed in an air conditioner, or slipped and fell in front of a large group of people, idk, it could be anything but it has to be about you. So this month we ask you readers, WHAT IS THE MOST EMBARRASSING THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU????
This month's winner will receive a print of a painting by me (Dylan Hillman) and whatever Jake decides to throw in as well.
* Don't forget that you must put your full name along with your answer and also post our blog to your facebook for your answer to count.
*and previous month's winners are not eligible to win any other month's contest.
*Winner for the contest will be picked and announced at the beginning of next month.
What are you waiting for? Start talking!!!!

Pizza Burg.
Alright the food creation me and Jake are bringing to you today is our version of the pizza burger. Two of our favorite foods put together to make one giant creation.
We decided to go big and simple. Pizza+Hamburger = Pizzaburger!
This creation is not intended for the weak or light eater.
Read on and create this work of art at your own risk.
First we chose two pizzas and cooked them for seven minutes each.
Then while those were in the oven we cooked a giant hamburger patty; add whatever spices you want (we mixed in an egg with the meat to help keep the meat together and also added Worcestershire sauce and tonys).
You will probably need a friend to help flip the burger( that's how large this thing is!) and to drain the grease often.
If you try to attempt to make this burger you are definitely going to need something to wash it down with. We chose this new pomegranate 7up. It's crisp, refreshing, and has anti-oxidants (at least that's what the label says). This beverage is delicious regardless.

First one we chose is Supreme |
The second one, 4 meat. |
Big Burg. |
Next you take the pizzas out after about 7 minutes and you then use the pizzas for buns and put the burger in between the pizzas. You can put the pizzas in whichever order you want. We also sprinkled more cheese on top of the burger.
After we put the burger together we put it back in the oven for about 3 or 4 minutes to finish cooking the pizzas and let everything melt together into layers of meaty goodness. We took the pizzas out and cut them into fourths. The crust was crispy and so they were like giant pan-inis only better.
Then we feasted! You might think all of the meat was a bit much but there was lots of sauce and cheese to even everything out.
That's a lot of meat. |
Mmmmm. |
Massive Meal. |
Soo goood! |
This food creation was soo delicious! I suggest everyone try this out.
Some might think this would be gross or that their is no artistic craft when we make these creations but I assure you it is a delicate art putting these creations together. It was quite a task to fully cook the giant patty and have the pizzas ready at the same time. So now all i left to say to the brave and curious readers out there, is WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO MAKE THIS BURGER!!! and enjoy!! -Dyl
